Barcelona-based architecture studio Ferrolan LAB designed a small narrow and long residential structure used by a family as their permanent residence. Measuring 12 feet by 82 feet the contemporary home located in Barcelona Spain challenged the architects to construct a comfortable vertically designed collection of spaces.
Designed by architect Desmond Ong on a minimalist concept the Singapore residence has had its wall removed so as to provide the feel of open space. It is light airy and seemingly spacious. By avoiding bulky interiors and furniture the design has been given a sense of added openness. Usage of light colors and large glass windows gives also adds to large space outlook. The bedrooms and the bathroom designs are kept very simple while the open glass windows provide fro a green view outside.
The interiors are reached via a small entrance adorned with a fully glazed two story wall overlooking the back garden. Here a flight of stairs leads to the first floor – where copper-clad storage space on one side of the long corridor ensures an uncluttered residential space.
Located in the valley of a huge snowy mountain the house could really be a stand out from the rest. Though it seems poorly furnished it’s not so in reality. It is aptly furnished and has everything a modern civilized family wants. The walls are given a unique texture blended with traditional artifacts and mural paintings. The house is really artistic from floor furs to roof with a feeling of modernity being exhibited everywhere – ranging from bedrooms to bathrooms.
A classic sofa set and a table with 12 leather armchair displayed under spectacular lighting in the open living area cum dining space alone could lure you into this fantastic house. The houses have got a wonderful mix of construction materials that maneuvers tradition into modern architecture. Flooring is done mostly with wood which helps retain a cool atmosphere inside all round the year. In addition to the basic amenities the house also has a blissful library a neatly furnished office room fireplace greenish bathroom and has plenty of space for all sort of sports.
The owner’s demand was to create an urban touch to this age-old house and the architects started working on the single- storey residence with four bedrooms. Initially they divided the entire area into private and public spaces separated by a fairly large pool. A long bridge serves as the connection between public and private spaces.
